A traditional way to prepare coffee: the moka pot

There are different techniques to prepare a good coffee. Probably the most famous is the Espresso, but we do not have to forget the coffee prepared with the moka: this is a traditional method for the Italian families, and the moka is a must have product in each house… but are we sure that we can prepare this type of coffee in the correct way?


With this short article we would like to give you some advices in order to prepare the real Italian-style coffee with the moka pot.


The first thing to do is to select a high-quality coffee blend (and we suggest our Primo Aroma 100% Arabica blend) … because, as the saying goes “well begun is half done”!


Then, take the moka and fill up the tank with cold water, taking care that the liquid does not exceed the valve in the upper part of the tank.


Later, insert the cleaned filter and fill it with your favourite coffee blend (you can find several of them in our online shop). It is very important not to press the ground coffee with the spoon: it is preferable to create a sort of little pile, that we in Italy call “montagnella”.


 


At this point, fasten correctly the moka before putting it on the flame and percolate the coffee over low heat: this helps in not burning the coffee and gives a better extraction.


Once the moka starts gurgling, switch off the flame and let the coffee brew.


Open the cover of the moka and stir the coffee with a spoon before to serve it.


Now it is the time to enjoy your cup of hot coffee!


One last recommendation: always pay a lot of attention to the condition of the gasket, and if it turns in bad condition, just change it. This will also help in obtaining a good coffee!
